Software Citation Workshop

📝 Event Description

The Software Citation Workshop at UC San Diego brings together researchers, developers, and open science advocates to advance best practices for citing software in scholarly work. The workshop covers topics including software metadata standards, FAIR principles for research software, and tooling to support software citation across disciplines.

More details are available on the workshop website.

💡 Our Role / Contribution

Bhavesh Patel will deliver a flash talk titled "Codefair.io: an open source and free software for easily making GitHub repositories FAIR" during Session 2 of the flash talks. The talk will introduce Codefair.io, a free and open source tool that helps researchers make their GitHub repositories compliant with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) software principles with minimal effort. In particular, Codefair includes a workflow to easily archive source code on Zenodo to get a DOI and maintain a CITATION.cff file for software, both of which are extremely relevant to software citation.

Bhavesh will also participate in different hands-on activities organized around software citation over the four days of the workshop.
